What Is the Israeli Senior Citizen Card?

The Senior Citizen Card is an official government-issued document proving that an Israeli resident has reached retirement age. It grants access to discounts, priority services, and benefits under the Senior Citizens Law of 1989.

Who Automatically Receives a Senior Citizen Card?

Every Israeli resident who reaches retirement age is automatically issued a Senior Citizen Card.
Retirement age in Israel is:
Women: 62
Men: 67
The card is mailed free of charge to the citizen’s registered address as listed in the Population Registry.

If your registered address is outdated, you may need to change it before submitting requests for official documents, similar to the procedure described in our guide on How to Request an Israeli Birth Certificate.

When Is the Senior Citizen Card Valid?

Your card is valid only if it is a plastic card printed with your photo, a digital card containing your photo, or a card without a photo that is used together with another valid photo ID showing your date of birth.

When Do You Need to Apply Manually for a Senior Citizen Card?

You must actively apply for a new or updated card if it did not arrive within 30 days of reaching retirement age, if you want a photo added, if the card was lost or stolen, if you need an English version for use abroad, if your personal details are incorrect, or if you want to replace an old or worn-out card.

If you plan to use the card abroad, consider obtaining a notarized translation

How to Get a New Senior Citizen Card

Using the Senior Citizen App (Fastest Method)

The Senior Citizen App allows you to instantly generate a digital Senior Citizen Card and request a new plastic card with a photo.
The app is available on Google Play (Android) and App Store (iOS).
Your plastic card will be mailed to your registered address. Only one digital card may be issued per person.

Applying Through the Online Form (No Photo Included)

If you apply through the online form, the card will be issued without a photo and must be presented together with a photo ID such as your Teudat Zehut or driver’s license.

If the card is lost, you may also need to update your details in the Population Registry — similar to requirements for a Death Certificate Application in Israel.

How to Check the Status of Your Application

You can check online whether your application is being processed, whether your card has been printed, and whether it has been mailed to your registered address via Israel Post.
